Our crazy, yet good day

Today wore me out. It was fun, but tiring. We traveled to my cousin's house in Middleville. It's about an hour and a half away. I had plans tonight to meet up with some girlfriends for dinner, not thinking that I would be so late returning from an afternoon b-day party. Jade did not go with us today. He opted to stay home and work on some projects that were/are needing to be completed (which he did a fab job with, btw). Reyna slept all the way there, but Miss Ruby was having too much fun "talking" with Great Grandma & Aunt Sherry all the way there. So, by the time we arrived, she was good and ready for a nap. There was no place to put her, although she did really well, she was definitely ready to go home. We weren't 10 minutes down the road, when Reyna announces to everyone, she needed to poop. Of course. We stopped at a dairy farm, which was a really neat place. It had homemade ice cream, a petting zoo, huge man made sandbox and a big wooden play structure. I could have stayed there all day. The ice cream was out of this world delish and I was pretty glad Reyna announced to us her need to go #2 afterall. :) I was pretty bummed, I walked out of the house this am w/out my camera. Boo. I could have had some fun pic's to share. Ruby must have ate a little too much ice cream, because my grandma announced that she was throwing up a little bit of her ice cream. Eww...

Fast forward to ten minutes before we pull into my parents driveway,  Ruby decided she needed to complete some "business" of her own. When we got to my parents, I lifted her out of her seat only to find that she had blown her diaper out. It was in the carseat, all over her legs, on her pretty yellow shorts. To the bath we went.
Fast forward to pulling into our driveway, I get the girls unloaded, crap unloaded, carseat unloaded, Reyna is excited to see that the lightning bugs are starting to come out. I promised once we put Ruby to bed, we could come back out, which we did, to chase some. We both went out and it was getting dark by this point. I walked out to feed Hank and Reyna proceeded to frollick in the yard chasing bugs. I didn't see her when I was walking back up to the house, so I started to call her name. No answer. I called a few more times and still no answer. I cannot tell you how big the pit in my stomach was. I freaked. I thought to myself, "what kind of parent am I not knowing where my child is???" Turns out, she was in our yard, but was concentrating on putting a bug in her jar to yell out to me. I wanted to squeeze her and cry. I think the whole day was starting to get to me, I was scared shitless where she was and I was so thankful she was okay. It's not like she had wandered off, she was very closeby, but it just made me start in on the "what if's."
I stayed outside with her until neither of us could see a darn thing, except the glow of lightning bugs and the bugs flying around our street light. She was having such a good time. We came in, brushed our teeth together, I laid with her and snuggled her. She told me how she does not like "the vehicle" (the vehicle is our new suburban and she doesn't like it) and she would like our van back. After I tucked her in, all I could think about was a quote Nicole shared with me one time.
Mothering is a lifestyle. You live it. You breathe it. You are consumed by it every single day. There is no escaping it. There is no leaving it. The responsibility is utterly unbelievable. There are no breaks, no time outs, no days off and no moments of silence. It's my life. And, despite all the years I wasn't a mom, it is all that I know now."

I am not really sure who said this, but I love it.

So, to end this crazy day I had, I cannot sum up how I feel better than this quote. These girls' are my life. I cannot imagine something ever happening to them.

awww we missed you too :( I'm sorry about all the poop/puke. That's never fun- but yes, you're right- it goes along with the crazy thing called motherhood!

Can't wait to see you this week! Have a good Sunday!

I love that quote so much that I'm putting it a safe place to always look at it. It's SOOO true, mothering is all consuming.
