Oh Ruby....

She is obsessed with her goggles right now. I think that you have them upside down, sister!

Roobs and her boots.

Ruby loves her boots. She is also into wearing tights right now. She gets this from her big sis, of course. On Monday, she wore her boots. When I asked where she got them...

"from Great Gramma. I feel like her today, too."
-Ruby

Of course hearing her say this, I had to walk away for a minute to wipe away my tears. If you have a minute, please say an extra prayer for my Grandma.

Christmas Wreaths

My mom & I spent the day crafting yesterday, which was a ton of fun. The other day, I asked her to go shopping, she said she was going to look for a holiday wreath. I told her we should just make one. Reyna was at school, Ruby was suuuper low key. I love having my mom off for the Winter. The top two pictures are my mom's wreath and the bottom two are my wreath. I am still planning on making one more for a gift. We referred to this tutorial to make our flowers.

Of course Ruby enjoyed having my mom over, as well. In between crafting, we played Elefun, had a Taylor Swift dance party, ate lasagna leftovers and enjoyed hot coffee and tea. It was a lovely afternoon, I tell ya. One of the perks for me, was not having to take Roobs with me to pick up Reyna OR taking her with me to gymnastics. I dont' know who loved it more me or Ruby.

Day #14
Today I am thankful for the sun that is shining and hearing, "I love you's" all day from Roobs.

Ruby's party.

We had a family party for Ruby the weekend prior to her birthday. It went so well. Of course I was ready to have a panic attach 30 minutes before the party due to the fact I decided to make the cake & the cupcakes. The chocolate for the cupcakes could not be made ahead of time and everything was fine, I was just being crazy. I get like that everytime I host something. BUT, it was the first time I put my cake & cupcake skills to the test and they had to be perfect, ya know?! haha!

Roobs had so much fun. She is so funny though. She doesn't over exert herself. At one point, she was a little sleepy and while all the other kids were running around, she was laying on the couch, sucking her thumb with her bebe's in hand.

She received so many nice gifts from everyone. Whenever someone asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she said "Stompeez & cake." Of course, we had to get her stompeez. They get horrible reviews, but whatever. She wanted them and she loves them. What else did she open? Melissa & Doug playfood, a FAO Swartz music box, suitcase, cowgirl boots, money, art supplies, a Leapster explorer and several other things, but those are the things that I can think of.

I did take a little bit of video at the party, but the pictures that I posted are not the greatest. I didn't take that many. I ate cake with my girl, played, visited, ate chicken tacos and had a really good time celebrating Ruby turning three. I did not want to spend the day running around with my face behind a camera. And you know what? It felt pretty darn good.

Numero tres

Ruby. Three years old. Where has the time gone? I think it goes faster with a second. Well, even though she is the sassiest, most dramatic girl, she is also the first to snuggle, give kisses and tell me how much she loves. me. xoxo Roobs. You definitely complete our family.

Weight: 30 lbs.
Height: 37 inches
Favorite color:green
Favorite food: .....according to her..strawberries, french fries (Reyna chimed in and said her fave food was cake pops. Jade OF COURSE was right there and gave me a look like, "is that ALL you do is frequent Starbucks??" oops) :))))
Favorite show: Team OomiZoomi
Favorite things:Obviously her bebe's (blankets) and thumb, dresses, puzzles, going to the park, playing with Reyna, popsicles, going places...she LOVES Meijer & Target, JoAnn's....she is a really good little shopper. She also LOVES the water.
Things I don't want to forget:Roobs loves her sleep. We were at a birthday the other night. She was having a great time, but it was getting close to bed time and she didn't get cranky, but she came up to us and said, "I'm tired, it's time to go home. I want to go to bed." She could care less what is going on. If she is tired, it's bed time. She is also a pretty big couch potato. We definitely have to monitor her TV time. She could sit in front of it all day long.

The first picture I posted??? Yeaaahhh...that was taken this morning and that was also after I said, "smile Roobs." See the craziness??

3 Things Thursday

1.) This was Ruby just a few minutes after she took a dive into our pond. I was in the garden picking weeds when I saw Ruby with a rock and I knew darn well what she was going to do with it. Last week, I discovered she had been throwing rocks into the pond. Of course, I was not thrilled. While I do understand it is probably fun for a 2 year old to mess around in a pond full of pretty orange fish, I do not let them. I let them feed the fish and Reyna is old enough to help me with it. Anyway....that rock Roobs had...yeah, I knew she was headed for the pond and even though I told her NO, she had other plans. I saw it coming. I started running when I saw her foot slip, but she went in head first. I dug my foot into the dirt and grabbed her out so fast. She scared the living crap out of me. I think that it scared her to the point where I think she learned a lesson, at least I pray that she did. Reyna got pretty upset because she wanted to make sure Ruby was okay, but then she asked, if Ruby killed the fish when she fell in. I explained to her that they were fine, but Ruby could have drowned and Reyna looked at me and looked at Ruby and said, "gosh, I would have missed you."  To top it off, I swaddled Ruby up after she fell in and she tripped and fell on the pavement and skinned up her chin pretty good. That is when Reyna went and found her a butterfly and a worm, because those two things make everything better. Later on after dinner and bath, I came in the living to find Reyna & Roobs deep in convo about whether or not Ruby had a chance to open her eyes while she was underwater. I never did hear her answer she gave to Reyna. I love their sisterly love.

2.) This mama is busting loose on Saturday! Woot! Miss Kaitlin (my brothers girlfriend) & I are going to a book signing in Detroit and then heading to the mall to do a little shopping. I am sure there will be some lunch involved and you know me....coffee! I cannot wait. Oh, we are going to meet the author Kelle Hampton who wrote, "Bloom." I have never been to a book signing before, so I am suuuuper excited. :)))) Pictures to follow.

3.)As I type this it is a little after 11:00. Guess who is still awake? Ruby. Guess who had a nap today? Ruby. I have not been giving her one because it keeps her up at night, but there are days she still needs one. Today was one of those days and now we are dealing with a child that is having a party in her room. I even woke her up from her nap. Ugh! I always dreaded the day she stopped taking naps.

Just Alike

Ruby is just like Reyna in so many ways. She can spend from sun up to sun down outside just like her big sister. This week, our yard has been full of butterflies. The girls have spent most of their time outside catching and releasing them.

The puddle pictures?? I decided to wash the car. Well, let me start by saying, we bought a car! Have I mentioned this? Gran?? Have I even told you this??? We kept the Suburban. We just needed an extra vehicle...one that was better on gas that I would drive the majority of the week. I really like it, but I do hit my head on it everytime I get out of the thing. Really, I do. I met a friend at the park yesterday and smashed my head getting Roobs out of the car. And, I cannot park the dang thing. You would think driving an 8 passenger Suburban, I could park anything, but I can park an 8 passenger Suburban, I can't park a 5 passenger car and this is NOT a joke.

Oh, so wasn't this post supposed to be about Ruby? Anyway....the puddle pic's. Ruby needs a haircut as you can see in the puddle pictures. She is looking pretty dang shaggy right now. I had just finished washing the car (which is AWESOME because I can't wash the burb it's too big, that's my excuse NOT to anyway) and the way that Ruby differs from Reyna? If there is a mess waiting to happen, Ruby will find it. Ruby found a nice little mud puddle to play in. Which, no big deal. BUT, she stuck her ENTIRE head in it. I was cleaning up my mess, so I just let her play, but guess how much fun her hair was to clean after she was finished?

The reason why we usually pick clothes the night before school.

The girls are good in the morning. We are lucky. I know a lot of other parents who have children who do not like the mornings, but the girls are a lot like Jade & I. I forgot to have Reyna pick out clothes last night for school. Well, I won't be doing that again! It's hard right now due to the fact our weather is really, really nice. She doesn't have a lot to choose from. Most of her clothes are Winter.

Me:"Come on, let's get you dressed. We are running a little late (go flippin' figure) so we need to get you dressed and eat".

Reyna:"What is that?????? I am NOT wearing stripes ever again! I will only wear polka dots, mama. (The crying begins) Mama, do I see a tag on that shirt? Where did that shirt even COME FROM?? Okay, I will wear polka dots OR butterflies".

Me:"Reyna, it's a tagless shirt. It's adorable and I bought it for you and you have yet to wear it. Since it's so nice out, there isn't a ton to choose from until we do a little shopping, but I will try to find something else".

I drag my arse back to her room just because it is not worth the battle to fight with her that early in the morning. I find Roobs still waking up in her bed looking all adorable. I ended up finding a shirt with a butterfly thank you Lord! I made Roob's promise me she was never ever going to be that difficult for me. Her response???

"I just want necklaces, mama".

Does this mean she is going to be even MORE diffficult or what??? What does this mean?????? Girls, I tell ya!

Day #3
Today I am thankful for the roof over my head.

So typical

What is typical?

  • Reyna in some sort of dress
  • Ruby decked out in jewelry
  • Taylor Swift playing in the background when this picture was captured
  • The girls watching out the window for daddy to come home from work.
  • Reyna helping Ruby put on more "pretties."

Sick babe

It has been a really, really long week.

We took the girls to a Michigan/Michigan State party on Saturday.

Sunday, they both woke up stuffy. Ruby was worse than Reyna.

Monday, Ruby threw up all day. It was awful. I had puke crusted on my clothes by the time Jade got home.

Tuesday morning around 4:30, Ruby woke up with a fever of 101.7 and a horrid cough with wheezing. I have never heard either one of the girls wheeze. Ever.

Luckily, we were able to get into the doctor right after Reyna went to school. They listened to her lungs and checked her pulse oxygen levels, which were dangerously low. Dr. Williams was thinking after a breathing treatment in office might raise her levels. No such luck.

I took Ruby to the hospital for Pneumonia around 10:30.

It is scary having babies sick enough to be admitted to the hospital.

Luckily, she only had to stay a night.

She is on breathing treatments every four hours and on a steroid for the next four days.

We have a follow up appointment with the doctor tomorrow. I am anxious to see how her lungs sound.

To be continued....

The New Do'

I really had no idea Reyna was trying to persue a career in cosmetology, until Ruby walked into the bathroom late afternoon yesterday with a blank stare on her face like, "uhm, hi mama?"

I admit, I started sobbing. (The back of her hair looked like an old school Billy Ray Cyrus pony tail.) Then I called the hubs. No answer. Then I called my own mama. She thought something was majorly wrong. Wasn't there????
Of course Reyna has not perfected her hair cutting skills yet. In the long run, if she decides she would like to start cutting hair professionally, I hope she uses something a little better quality than Crayola. I really hope her future clients do not have to call up a nice salon in the area (while still boo hooing), pay a decent chunk of money to have the botched up job fixed.

I will admit, Ruby's hair does look pretty cute. It is going to take some getting used to. BUT, I didn't have to condition it last night, fight her to get the knots out. This morning, there wasn't a drop of syrup in it from breakfast.

When Reyna fessed up that she did it, she told me that Ruby needed a hair cut. :)

Minus 1 babe

It has been really nice having some one on one time with Miss Ruby this weekend. It's amazing how different children act when they are not around their siblings, right?? Yesterday, I needed to run to the library to return some movies before they closed. I assumed we would run in and run out, but we ended up staying for about 1/2 hour. It was the most un-eventful trip I have ever had with R. I forgot how easy one child is/was.

This morning, we met up with my neighbor/friend, Michelle, for breakfast @ Tim Horton's and then from there, we went shopping @ JoAnn's. Michelle was nice enough to help me make a tutu for Ruby for her birthday. It's two shades of pink and I have a tank she is going to wear with it. She loves it, so it's not going to be a problem getting her to wear it. She wore it around all afternoon. I finally made her take it off before she ate a popsicle.

It's definitely been an easy going weekend. I let her stay up a little later last night. Tonight? Nope. On the agenda? Ice cream and Sex & The City-the movie. Don't I live such a wild life???

For memories sake

Ruby loves to read. There is no way you can lay her down for a nap or bed w/out reading to her. She would never let you hear the end of it. No matter what, she always asks for, "Jambaweee (Jamberry)." She is obsessed. Reyna loved all of the Karen Katz and Ruby is pretty much obsessed with Sandra Boynton. We have quite the collection for her, but these are a few of her faves.
