I find that when I prepare meals earlier in the day, our evenings go so much smoother. Are you in the same boat?
Here's the usual scenario: 4:30ish, I start dinner, Ruby is getting cranky and wants to be held and Reyna is running thru the house chasing the dog. It's impossible to cook w/ 20+ pounds attached to my hip, while entertaining a 3 year old.
Friday, I prepared dinner around 3, so we played outside until the girls were hungry and it went sooo smooth. I have decided to start meal planning on Sunday so I have an idea of what we will be filling out tummies with instead of deciding last minute.
Monday:spaghetti +meatballs, salads and homemade garlic toast
Tuesday:Leftovers. I cooked like a madwoman this weekend, so we need to clean out the fridge + it's Jade's night in Lansing, so I rarely cook on Tuesdays
Wednesday:Puerto Rican chicken, white rice + Puerto Rican beans
Thursday:Salmon, salad and baked potatoes
Friday:Pizza
There you have it. I wanted to make something new this week, but it doesn't look like that is happening. Next week.

That was exactly why I started meal planning! I also found that writing out the menu for the week forces me to use what I had in my pantry/freezer and helped me spend less at the grocery store - as well as keeps my husband from asking me, "What's for dinner?"
Meal planning is great. I did it for about a month and then quit for some reason. Maybe I will restart.
Our meals always go so much smoother when planned in advance! I would say only 50% of our meals are planned ahead of time though, working on it!
I started meal planning originally to help us budget, makes grocery shopping a lot easier, but I think it really helps us to eat better in general too. I absolutely love pre-set meals - using a slow cooker/crock pot or prepping in advance so it just goes in the oven on time bake. It is so nice to set something up in the morning and have practically no work to do come dinner time!
I totally agree, I try to do as much as humanly possible ahead of time. It's not always easy but it's so worth it!
